Black and White Magic: The Trap of Ethics and the Reality of Will

The popular division of magic into “black” (evil) and “white” (good) is a dangerous illusion. It creates a false sense of safety in those who believe they are walking a “light” path and are insured against consequences. In reality, the boundaries do not run along ethics, but along your attitude toward another person’s will and your personal readiness to pay for the result.

The mistake of the “good” request

Many believe that if their intention is dictated by love, then the magic remains “white.” The classic example is the request: “I want him to love me.”

At first glance, there is no evil here. But from the point of view of the mechanics of influence, this is black magic. Why? Because you are attempting a direct break-in of another person’s will. You are playing with the deepest feeling a person can have, trying to deprive them of the right to choose. Any ritual aimed at forcibly changing another person’s feelings automatically becomes “black,” no matter how bright the feelings are with which you justify your impulse.

How can influence be made lighter?

To minimize destructive consequences for yourself, you need to change not the ritual, but the structure of the request itself. Instead of “I want him to fall in love with me” — a breach of will — use “I want him to notice me” — an expansion of possibilities.

In that case, you are not imposing a choice, but giving the object more options for their own decision. Does that make the magic “white”? No.

Lilith’s answer is simple: white magic practically does not exist, at least not within the range of requests with which people usually come to practice. At best, we can speak of “gray,” more sparing methods that leave the object room to maneuver.

The basic distinction: the mirror of responsibility

If you strip away the religious husk, only one precise criterion remains:

  • White (or gray) magic is influence whose consequences, the karmic lesson, you understand and are personally ready to bear yourself. It is an honest bargain with reality.
  • Black magic is that which, deep down, you would never want to experience yourself.

Any action will return to you, and most likely within this lifetime. If you are not ready to find yourself in the place of the one you are influencing, then you are practicing black magic with all the risks that follow.

Choosing the tool

Magic is a tool. In itself, it has no color, but it acquires one at the moment of your request. The consequences of an unconsidered impulse can poison your life for years and block your resources.

Do not seek those who promise a “safe love spell without sin.” Such methods do not exist. Seek those who know and understand — those who grasp the price of every movement of force and are capable of weighing all the pros and cons before pressing the levers of reality.

Remember: knowledge comes before ritual. The ability to distinguish is your only real protection.
