What Is the “Matrix,” and How Do You Step Out of It
Here I will speak not about a mathematical tool or a blockbuster, but about the matrix of life and your awakening.
In Lilith’s teaching, the Matrix is a state of deep and unquestioned conviction that the world is arranged exactly this way and no other.
The Matrix as a labyrinth of beliefs
Imagine your life as a labyrinth. Its walls are not physical barriers, but beliefs. They direct you exactly where the “owner” or creator of this labyrinth needs you to go. As long as you walk inside someone else’s matrix, you are not moving along your own path, but along a road assigned to you by someone else.
The walls of this labyrinth become state institutions, cultural codes, and basic upbringing.
A simple test: when you turn to God, do you automatically think of some specific religion? If yes, then you are inside a matrix built by religious institutions. This is neither “good” nor “bad,” it is simply a fact: your perception is limited by the framework of someone else’s system, and it says, “God = a specific spiritual teaching.”
The main myth: do you need to “leave” the Matrix?
In esotericism, it is customary to think that the Matrix is an absolute evil from which one must flee. But Lilith places this dogma in doubt.
A careless “exit” from your beliefs can be traumatic. If you destroy the old walls but do not find anything to replace them, you will not arrive in a new world or on a new path, but in emptiness. Having lost the old points of orientation and not gained new ones, a person risks losing some part of the self.
That is why it is more accurate to speak not of exit, but of transition. We do not simply break the walls; we consciously choose a new architecture of life, one that will be more useful to us.
Who built your labyrinth?
What should frighten you is not the walls themselves or even your path, but the fact that someone else built them for their own benefit and not in your interests.
- If you yourself built the structure of your life in the interests of your family and your values, then this is your fortress.
- But if the walls were raised by those who want to direct your path toward their own enrichment or control, then this is a prison.
Awakening begins where you ask the question: “Is this path in my interests?”
The “Contract” practice: stepping out of the matrix
To come out from under the influence of someone else’s matrix and awaken, try a simple exercise. Take any fundamental belief and imagine it as an old “contract” that you once signed with other people, and then forgot about.
A training example: money.
Ordinary belief: “Money is a value issued by the Central Bank; it determines my success.” These are the walls of the labyrinth.
A possible awakening version: I remembered that once we agreed to create a convenient tool for exchanging goods, so that we would not have to carry sacks of grain with us. We simply delegated to organizations the right to regulate this tool.
Now it is not money and the printing press that rule you; you are using a tool that you yourself once invented. Now the real question is not whether there is little or much money, but whether the system responsible for distributing this resource is functioning correctly. The Matrix has widened.
Lilith’s note: The Matrix is not an enemy. Sometimes it is our conscious choice for the sake of convenience or safety. The important thing is that it should be your choice. Subjecthood begins where you become aware of the terms of the contract by which you live.
