Lilith and Family. A Union of Equals, Not Submission

Lilith is often seen as a destroyer of the hearth. As if her wild independence were incompatible with the role of wife and mother. But is that really so? In my view, Lilith is not proud solitude, but wholeness within a union.

A true family is built not on the suppression of will, but on partnership. Lilith refused to lie beneath Adam not out of pride, but because she was seeking equality. Is that not the foundation of a strong lineage? When a woman does not dissolve into domestic life, but preserves her inner fire, the home becomes stronger. Her “untamed” nature is a living energy that keeps a relationship from hardening into something lifeless.

Let me draw a parallel with Slavic roots. Our ancestors honored woman as Bereginya. She was not a servant; she was the keeper of the family’s strength, guided by intuition. Like Mokosh, spinning destinies, the Slavic woman held power within the home while preserving her will. Here, Lilith is a modern Bereginya. She is free in spirit, and that strength protects those closest to her.

Let me emphasize: this is my personal vision of the archetype. I do not deny the myths, but I adapt them to the realities of love. Lilith can be a mother and a wife if she is beside a partner who respects her nature. Independence is not a threat to stability, but the foundation of trust. A family in which a woman is allowed to be herself does not know betrayal.

Lilith is not against family. She is against slavery within family. That is where her value lies for a world in which we seek harmony between freedom and closeness. This is the path of a woman who chooses to be beside someone, not to be obliged.
